Klout requires manual update

This is a quick update to my recent klout post.  klout requires users to manually update their klout score.  As you can see here, you need to click to refresh.  I don’t feel klout goes out of its way to make that clear.  If I had to guess, I’d bet they are working to make the site scalable enough to handle the millions of twitter accounts.

Here is more from klout regarding scoring.

  1. Hey John,

I’m the Marketing Manager here at Klout and I just wanted to reach out and thank you for the feedback. You are right the refresh feature could be more obvious. Our top priority right now is scaling our systems so everyone will get automatically refreshed and will not have to login to request an update. This will ensure all our scores are much more accurate and solve this issue.

    Thanks!

  2. Thanks for the comment Megan. I recently read Peter Shankman’s post on klout and that strategy made a lot of sense to me. I’m interested to see the impact of klout its competitors (like Empire Avenue?) on social. My “meaningless” comment on twitter is regarding a number without context is not very valuable. However, having systems that rate/rank individuals/companies level of authority on various topics seems like a healthy maturation of the social ecosystem. At least, I hope it’s healthy. There will be forces that will want to game the system (SEO anyone?) and corrupt your value.
